Dear Long Lake Historical Society (LLHS) Members,
I am writing with an update as to the status of LLHS. Our organization has been going through a transition phase this past year. At our annual meeting inAugust, 2025, many members of the Executive Board and Board of Trustees resigned and we are currently seeking replacements. Unfortunately, many communities across our country find themselves in a similar situation. Members who have volunteered for years are aging and not able to continue. Our lives are busy and others simply do not have the time. It is also extremely difficult to recruit young people. The LLHS board members have been the foundation for a long time. This being said, LLHS needs you!
We are looking for dedicated individuals to take the reigns. LLHS has been a great keeper of Long Lake history and in order to continue we need volunteers to keep our local history alive. The following positions are open and need to be filled as soon as possible.
- President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Trustees
If we cannot fill these positions, or at least get volunteers to keep LLHS going, we will be unable to provide our summer programming at the Town Hall. At this point, our main goal would be to organize programs for July and August. Potential speakers need to be contacted and dates and times need to be scheduled. In addition, LLHS needs to promote the programs on our website, Facebook page and create posters to put up around town. Of course there is much more work that needs to be addressed, but continuing summer programming is the bare minimum, until we can fully restore our board.
Again, we need the help of year round residents, seasonal residents or simply those who truly care about preserving the history of Long Lake.
If you are interested, or know of someone who may be, please contact us at your earliest convenience. Thank you in advance for considering giving your time to the Long Lake Historical Society.
Sincerely,
Laura Moore
Former President and Current Trustee of LLHS
